How to do Kettlebell Swings and Benefits

Kettlebell Swings Benefits:

Before we get into the how, let’s talk about the why? I am a huge fan of kettlebell swings for one main reason; it is such a great full body workout! Done well, you can work on so much at once: strength, cardio, explosiveness, stability and control. Kettlebell swings are an efficient exercise to train muscles in your hips, glutes, hamstrings, abs, pecs, lats, shoulders and grip. So yeah a great full body workout 🙂 .

Kettelbell Swings Form:

The video below will provide an overview on how to swing a kettlebell with proper form. Here are a few things to keep in mind when working on improving your form.

  • Swings are a continuation in movement of a deadlift. This makes core engagement crucial for protecting your back.
  • This is not an exercise about are my arms strong enough to lift the bell, it is about hip muscles, glutes and hamstrings firing off to thrust creating momentum in your arms which then take over and stabilize the bell.
  • Breathing is key when you get to lifting heavy kettlebells. As you learn with a light weight practice syncing with your breath.
